Hybrid cars - my comments I've monitored the growing popularity of hybrid cars for sometime now, and I would dearly like to purchase one for my next car, but I have some concerns with them. Where I currently reside I believe there is limited service capability for these vehicles. As most hybrid vehicles I have looked at utilise nickel-metal hydrite batteries, my question (and I still need to do some research on this) is how long will these batteries last before requiring replacement? and how environmentaly friendly is the manufacture and disposal of these storage devices? Another noticeable thing with many hybrid vehicles especially in countries such as Australia with a lot of available sunlight, why don't more hybrid vehicles install solar panels in the roof of the vehicles as a recharge option while the car is not in use (mainly for those who park their vehicles in outdoor parking areas) or just to supplement the vehicle when in use? But even with these concerns & questions I will still consider seriously a hybrid car for my next car...
